Lover Arrested in UP After Stuffing Woman's Body in Suitcase in Selvas

Selvas Police have solved the murder of a young woman whose decomposed body was found in a suitcase, arresting her lover from a factory in Uttar Pradesh.

The body of Chhoti Kumari was found inside a suitcase kept in the bathroom of a rented room at Joginderbhai’s Chawl in Tokarkhada, Selvas. The body was believed to have been around two months old.

Foul smell leads to discovery

The case came to light after a foul smell began coming from a room behind Daan Hotel. On the landlord’s instructions, the room was opened last Tuesday, when police found the suitcase containing the decomposed body.

During the investigation, police learnt that a young man had rented the room around two months earlier. They began tracing him and sent a team to Uttar Pradesh based on information gathered during the probe.

Selvas Police, with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), traced the suspect to a factory in Varanasi. Acting on a tip-off, the teams raided Shubhkamna Real Tech in Chandpur and arrested Rishabh Kumar Singh, who was allegedly working there under a false identity.

Accused allegedly fled after killing lover

According to police, Rishabh, a resident of Sichur under Roh police station in Bihar’s Nawada district, allegedly murdered Chhoti Kumari Upadhyay before fleeing Selvas.

Police said Rishabh had eloped with Chhoti, brought her to Selvas and married her. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to killing her.

After the murder, he allegedly left Selvas and hid in Varanasi, where he worked as a labourer at a factory while concealing his identity.

Couple had rented room in Selvas

Chhoti Kumari Upadhyay was originally from Nawada, Bihar. She had reportedly left her first husband before eloping with Rishabh, after which the couple came to Selvas and married.

The couple rented a room in the Tokarkhada chawl after paying the landlord a ₹20,000 deposit. A few days later, Rishabh allegedly told the landlord that he had to return to his hometown for work and left.

Police allege that he had already killed Chhoti and fled, leaving her body hidden inside the suitcase in the bathroom for nearly two months.

Kidnapping case was already registered

A kidnapping FIR had earlier been registered against Rishabh at Roh Police Station in Bihar in connection with Chhoti’s disappearance.

After his arrest in Uttar Pradesh, Rishabh was produced before a court there. Selvas Police obtained his transit remand and brought him back to Selvas for further investigation.
