Long-Time Absconding Lalu Sindhi Gang Member Arrested in GUJCTOC Case

Vadodara Crime Branch has arrested a long-time absconding member of the notorious Lalu Sindhi gang, which is facing charges under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GUJCTOC) Act. The arrested accused, Hemant alias Babu Nanakram Sachwani, had been on the run for nearly three months before police caught him after receiving information that he had returned to his home in Vadodara's Sant Kanwar Colony, Warsia. Police said the arrest is another major step in the crackdown on the gang's organised crime network.

Gang Linked to Serious Organised Crimes

According to police, the Lalu Sindhi gang has been active for nearly 10 years and is accused of spreading fear across Vadodara and nearby districts through organised criminal activities. Investigators said the gang was involved in a wide range of offences, including murder, extortion, illegal liquor smuggling, preparing fake documents, attacks on public servants, offences under the Arms Act, and other violent crimes. A total of 106 criminal cases have been linked to the gang during this period.

Police Investigation and Action

• Police registered 81 cases against 12 gang members over the past 10 years.
• After collecting evidence, investigators filed charge sheets against the accused.
• Despite repeated preventive action, the gang allegedly continued its criminal activities.
• A case under the GUJCTOC Act was registered against the gang on May 3 to take stricter legal action.

Earlier, police had arrested the alleged gang leader Lalu Sindhi along with several of his associates. However, Hemant alias Babu had managed to escape and remained absconding. Acting on specific intelligence, Crime Branch officers raided his residence and arrested him without incident. Police said his arrest is expected to help investigators gather more information about the gang's operations and network.

Criminal Record of the Accused

• Hemant alias Babu has 27 criminal cases registered against him.
• The cases include liquor smuggling, gambling, and theft.
• He has also been detained six times under the PASA Act due to his alleged involvement in repeated criminal activities.
• Police said he was an active member of the Lalu Sindhi gang's illegal activities.

Police said the investigation into the Lalu Sindhi gang is still continuing, and further arrests are possible. Officials added that the action under the GUJCTOC Act is aimed at dismantling organised crime networks operating in Gujarat and preventing habitual offenders from continuing criminal activities.
