BJP’s Mansukh Vasava defeats AAP’s Chaitar Vasava in Bharuch battlefield
Updated: Jun 4th, 2024
After trailing for a little in the morning vote-counting, BJP's Mansukh Vasava chased down and overtook Chaitar Vasava of AAP on Bharuch seat, and emerged victorious against the latter.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) named Chaitar Vasava as its candidate for the Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency, which registered a massive 68.75% voter turnout in phase III polling on May 7.
Vasava, an MLA from the Dediapada assembly in Bharuch, was also in jail on charges related to an alleged extortion case and assault of forest officials.
Congress and AAP reached a seat-sharing agreement, causing a stir in Gujarat, especially over the contentious Bharuch seat.
The efforts to protect the seat were also done by Faisal Patel, Ahmed Patel’s son. He expressed his discontent in a letter to the party leadership, highlighting the emotional and political significance of the Bharuch seat to his family and the Congress party.
The Bharuch seat has been a stronghold for the BJP since 1989, with Mansukh Vasava securing it for the party in six consecutive terms.
The AAP’s performance in the region, particularly their win in Dediapada during the 2022 Gujarat polls, has been cited as a factor in the seat-sharing discussions.
