Liquor worth ₹12 lakh busted in Chandkheda, one held, accomplice on run

The Chandkheda police in Ahmedabad have unearthed a sizeable illegal liquor stockpile in a raid, arresting one accused while his alleged accomplice fled the scene. The seizure, comprising thousands of bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor along with vehicles, is valued at over ₹16.9 lakh, officials said.

According to a police official, the raid was carried out at a residential premises where the accused, identified as Mayank Satishbhai Chaurasia (27), was found in possession of a large quantity of liquor stored without the requisite permit. His associate, Vipulkumar Jaisingbhai Solanki, escaped during the operation and is currently absconding.

Police said that a total of 3,432 units of liquor, including glass and plastic bottles as well as beer cans, were recovered from the spot. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth ₹11.92 lakh.

In addition to the liquor stock, officials also confiscated three vehicles allegedly used in the illegal trade: two cars and a scooter. The total value of the vehicles is estimated at ₹5 lakh, taking the overall seizure to ₹16.92 lakh.

Documents, including a light bill and tax bill, were also recovered from the premises and have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.

The FIR has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Gujarat Prohibition Act. Police said the arrested accused has been remanded to custody, while efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused. Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the source and distribution network of the seized liquor.
