Liquor seizure in Gujarat

A consignment of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth ₹1.04 crore, concealed beneath sacks of onions and being transported from Vapi to Gondal, was seized by Ahmedabad Rural Police near Bagodara. Preliminary investigation revealed that the liquor was to be delivered in Gondal.

Inspector R N Karmatiya of Ahmedabad Rural Local Crime Branch received a tip-off that a large quantity of IMFL was being transported in a truck from Vataman towards Bagodara.

On Tuesday night, police set up surveillance and intercepted the truck, which led to discovery of a large quantity of liquor hidden beneath onion sacks during inspection. A total of 18,000 bottles of IMFL, valued at ₹1.04 crore, were recovered.

During interrogation, the truck driver, Mansukh Kodiyatar, revealed that a person named Bharat, instructed him to take the truck to Vapi-Bhilad and unload the goods there.

On Tuesday morning, the truck was handed over to an unidentified  person in Bhilad who loaded it with liquor concealed under onions before returning it to Mansukh.

Bharat instructed him to call upon reaching Gondal. However, the police apprehended the truck before it could reach Gondal.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

In a separate incident, the Crime Branch intercepted a car near Zundal Ring Road and, upon inspection, seized foreign liquor worth ₹2.5 lakh from the vehicle. The car was occupied by Kamlesh Prajapati, Dalabhai Adivasi, and a woman named Gajidevi Prajapati, who were taken into custody for further investigation.
