Sleeping turned into a nightmare for a smuggler when he found himself in another station with cops around him who busted him with liquor in Gujarat’s Vadodara.
Public transport has been often used to smuggle alcohol into Gujarat from the neighbouring states. The accused is also a suspended railway employee, who was carrying liquor to deliver it at Ankleshwar station, and was nabbed by the police at Vadodara railway station.
The Ernakulam-Okha Express train arrived at platform number 2 of Vadodara railway station on the morning of Apr 7. The railway police on duty were keeping an eye on the suspicious travellers.
Meanwhile, an old man was seen carrying a heavy bag on his shoulder and a black trolley bag in his hand from the staircase towards Surat.
When the police asked him about his belongings in the bag, he panicked and revealed alcohol. On checking his bag, a total of 24 liquor bottles of different brands of liquor were found.
The man, identified as Rajukund Swami, originally from Tamil Nadu and a resident of Ankleshwar, was set to deliver the liquor bottles to a person named Kalu in Ankleshwar.
Further investigation by the police revealed that he was working as an electrician for the Vadodara Division Railway and was suspended from the duty. Investigations are also underway on whether his smuggling is frequent.
