Liquor smuggled in footwear parcels busted in Ahmedabad, goods worth ₹1.92 lakh seized

In a crackdown on bootlegging, the Prohibition and Crime Branch in Ahmedabad has exposed a new smuggling tactic, seizing a consignment of liquor hidden inside parcels of ladies’ footwear in the city.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a transport godown near Prem Darwaja in the Madhupura area, where suspicious parcels had arrived at a warehouse operated by Patel Goods Flight Carriers. During the search, officers found boxes labelled as ladies’ slippers. However, upon opening them, they discovered costly bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor concealed beneath the footwear.
A total of 32 bottles were recovered from the spot, with the seized goods valued at ₹1.92 lakh.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment had been sent from Bawana in Delhi and was addressed to a firm named Neelam Footwear in Ahmedabad. The accused had used proper GST invoices and the cover of a legitimate footwear business to avoid suspicion during transit.
The Madhavpura police have registered a case against unidentified persons involved in sending and receiving the consignment. Officials said further investigation is underway using mobile and GST details, and arrests are expected soon.
