A party involving illegal liquor consumption, hookah arrangements and loud DJ music was busted by the Gujarat University police during the Vasi Uttarayan celebrations in the Panchvati area of Ahmedabad, triggering a major commotion late on Thursday night.

Acting on inputs and a control room message from residents, the police raided the rooftop of a residential building, Centurial Vista, located in Panchvati Second Lane, Gulbai Tekra, under the jurisdiction of the Gujarat University Police Station. Residents had complained that loud DJ music and drunken revellers were creating a disturbance in the neighbourhood.

Police officials said that during the raid, a total of 16 people, including men and women, were found partying on the terrace. The gathering was allegedly organised as a private get-together to mark the Uttarayan festival. Investigations have revealed that the event was organised by Kushal Shah.

The police officials described the party as having a DJ set playing music on the rooftop. Several bottles of liquor were seized from the spot. In addition, hookahs of various flavours were found, along with food counters set up, indicating elaborate arrangements for the gathering.

According to police sources, when the raid was conducted, four women and 12 men were detained from the terrace. Officials confirmed that one person was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and a separate case has been registered against him for the consumption of liquor under the Gujarat Prohibition Act. As of now, no formal complaint has been lodged by any individual in the matter.

The police have completed the panchnama proceedings in the presence of panch witnesses and said that all those detained will be taken to Civil Hospital for medical examination to determine alcohol consumption. Liquor bottles, hookahs and other materials found at the venue have been seized, and further legal action is under way.

Senior police officials added that a detailed report will be released after completion of the ongoing investigation and procedural formalities.
