Liquor bottles, narcotics found in MS University boys’ hostel during police raid

In Gujarat, Vadodara’s Maharaja Sayajirao (MS) University has once again been embroiled in controversy after police recovered empty liquor bottles and suspected narcotics during a raid at a boys’ hostel.
Acting on information that liquor parties had allegedly been taking place in hostel rooms over an extended period, the Sayajiganj police carried out a surprise search at the university’s MM Hall hostel. During the operation, police recovered between 25 and 30 empty liquor bottles, one full bottle of foreign liquor, and a large number of empty cigarette packets along with other suspected narcotic substances.
The recovery has triggered concerns over how such items were brought into the hostel despite claims of strict security on the university campus. The role of the hostel warden and security personnel has come under scrutiny following the raid.
After the incident, university authorities reportedly went into a state of alarm and ordered an internal inquiry. The chief warden of the hostel confirmed that empty liquor bottles had been seized from a room and said a committee had been formed to investigate how the items entered the premises.
A science faculty student residing in the room from which the bottles were recovered claimed that the empty liquor bottles had been brought for a project. The student also stated that the MM Hall warden had conducted a routine round of the hostel a day earlier and that no liquor party had been taking place at the time.
On Jan 28, at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad, more than 100 empty expensive liquor bottles were reportedly found on the roof of a hostel block.
