Liquor bottle found during Gujarat health minister’s cleaning drive at Gujarat University

As Cleanliness Week officially began at Gujarat University on September 25, an empty liquor bottle was found during the Health Minister Rushikesh Patel’s cleaning drive.

The Gujarat University had launched Cleanliness Week as part of a special programme commemorating the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.

In a viral video, it can be seen that Patel was cleaning near the main gate, close to the B K School of Business Management garden and the University Tower, when the minister came across an empty liquor bottle. He handed it over to the Vice-Chancellor standing behind him, who then took it away in a dustpan.

Following the incident, National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and Youth Congress raised questions not only about the cleanliness drive but also regarding the university’s security and sanitation agencies.

NSUI took to social media, “Liquor Bottles in a dry state?! Empty liquor bottles found during a cleanup in the presence of the Health Minister on a university campus – and that too in the dry state of #Gujarat!”
