Lion kills 25-year-old man in Gujarat's Amreli district

A 25-year-old man was reportedly killed by a lion on Tuesday in Gujarat's Amreli district, with parts of his body later found near Kovaya village under the Rajula forest range.

The victim, a native of Uttarakhand who worked at a local restaurant, was reportedly attacked late at night while returning home after work.

As per reports, locals discovered some of his body parts and his severed head near an approach road close to the village early on Tuesday morning and alerted the police and forest department.

Assistant Conservator of Forests Viralsinh Chavda reportedly said preliminary findings indicated that the man was killed by a lion.  A pride of four lions was seen moving in the nearby area and efforts are under way to capture them.

Locals alleged that the victim was passing through the area after leaving the restaurant when he was attacked by a lion hiding in nearby bushes.

Forest officials have launched an operation to trace and cage the four lions seen in the vicinity as a precautionary measure.

Further investigation into the incident is under way.
