Lightning strike in Amreli kills 5

A sudden shift in the weather turned tragic for a family in Amreli’s Lathi taluka on Saturday. Five members of the family were electrocuted after lightning struck them.

The incident took place in Ambardi village, where 13 farm workers were returning home after their day’s work. Meanwhile, a thunderstorm with intense lightning engulfed the area.

While passing through the riverbed around 4.30 pm, a bolt of intense lightning struck the workers, killing three children and two women in the group.

The deceased include Bharti Sathaliya (35), Shilpa Sathaliya (18), Rupali Vanodiya (8), Radhe Sathaliya (5), and Riddhi Sathaliya (5).

So strong was the intensity of the lightning that it deafened the ears of those present on the scene and blinded by the flash.

Three persons were hospitalised after feeling uneasy following the strike.

Locals who spotted the group called for ambulances. Taluka and district authorities also rushed to the spot.

Notably, Saurashtra has been rattled by heavy rains accompanied by lightning in many areas.
