Ahmedabad Police’s Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Zone 3 has arrested two persons and seized mephedrone (MD) worth more than ₹1 lakh during a raid at a hotel near Kalupur, officials said on Tuesday.

The operation was carried out on June 2 after the LCB received specific intelligence that a man and a woman staying in a room at a hotel opposite Zakaria Masjid in the Kalupur area were allegedly in possession of narcotic substances.

During the search, police apprehended a man identified as Mohammad Sadiq alias Kalu, a rickshaw driver from Dariyapur, and a woman identified as Seema Dilipbhai Harjani, a resident of Sardarnagar.

Investigators said they recovered a transparent zip-lock packet containing 8.81 grams of mephedrone from Sadiq’s possession. Two mobile phones and additional packaging material allegedly used for storing narcotic substances were also seized.

A further search allegedly led to the recovery of another 1.43 grams of mephedrone from the woman, along with a mobile phone, cash and an electronic weighing scale.

In total, police seized 10.29 grams of mephedrone valued at approximately ₹1.02 lakh, two mobile phones worth ₹10,000, cash amounting to ₹6,330 and a weighing scale. The total value of the seized property was estimated at around ₹1.19 lakh.

Officers also documented the search process and prepared the necessary inventory and seizure records at the scene.

Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and launched an investigation to determine the source of the contraband, the distribution network involved and whether the accused had links to a larger drug trafficking operation.
