Days after a grave accident that took the life of a young woman near Shivranjani, in another unfortunate event, a student lost his life after a speeding SUV (sport utility vehicle) hit his motorcycle.

The accident near Jagatpur Cross Roads reportedly claimed the life of Yash Ghatpande after car driver Naresh Chaudhary (28) hit his vehicle on the night of Nov 28.

Ghatpande, a 21-year-old law student at Nirma University, along with two friends, were returning from dinner on a motorcycle when the incident occurred.

While Ghatpande died on the spot, bystanders took his two friends, who were riding pillion, to the hospital. The two friends, Hardik Gehlot of Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and Dev Pandey of Indore (MP), both law students as well, reportedly sustained multiple injuries.

As per reports, the SUV driver Chaudhary, a resident of Jodhpur village, was allegedly driving at a high speed. He was arrested by the L division traffic police on the night of the accident and was released the next morning (Nov 29) on bail.

Months ago, the city witnessed a tragic incident on the same Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) highway, claiming nine lives due to a speeding car.

Despite ‘traffic drives’ by the authorities to curb this trend, overspeeding remains a distressing norm in Ahmedabad.
