Land broker alleges caste abuse, intimidation and extortion by Thakor men in Ahmedabad

An Ahmedabad-based land trader has lodged a complaint alleging that he was subjected to caste-based abuse, intimidation, and extortion by three men who forcibly took him to his residence, seized blank cheques and personal documents, and threatened to defame him with fabricated videos.
On Tuesday, a case was lodged with the Sola High Court Police Station by the complainant, Jagdishbhai Muljibhai Parmar (43), a resident of Chandkheda, who alleged that the incident took place around 5.45 pm on September 1.
Parmar stated that he was called near Navkar Heights flats, Ognaj Circle, by an acquaintance and land broker named Melaji Thakor to discuss a property deal in Sabaspur village. While they were conversing, two men — Maheshji Somaji Thakor of Sabaspur and Karanji Vikramji Thakor of Jaloda village in Mehsana district — arrived in a white SUV.
Parmar alleged that Karanji Thakor abused him, made casteist remarks and questioned why he was “trading in Thakor community land”. The FIR further states that the accused demanded ₹11 lakh, claiming it was related to a cancelled sale deed of land in Sabaspur. When Parmar refused, he was allegedly forced into their vehicle and taken to his house in Chandkheda.
At his residence, the accused allegedly coerced him into signing six blank cheques from his UCO Bank account and took away his Aadhaar and PAN cards. They allegedly threatened to circulate fake videos of him on social media if he failed to comply with their demands.
The complainant maintained that he had no financial dealings with the accused and that the entire incident was an act of intimidation and extortion. He added that the men later dropped him back at Navkar Heights, from where he proceeded to the police station to lodge his complaint.
Police have registered a case under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to criminal intimidation, extortion, and unlawful confinement.
A senior police officer confirmed that the case has been investigated. “The allegations are serious, involving caste abuse and financial coercion. Further inquiry is underway to verify the sequence of events and identify the role of each accused,” the officer said.
