Kutch to get more water from Narmada by 2025
53 villages covering 68,195 hectares of area will get irrigational benefits by 2025
The cabinet minister for water resources and water supply, Kunvarji Bavaliya, said on Aug 10 that Kutch will get an additional 1 million cubic acre feet of water by 2025.
130 villages, including Anjar, Mundra, Mandvi, Bhuj, Nakhatrana, Lakhpat, Abdasa, and Rapar, covering 1.72 hectares of land, will get irrigation water from the Narmada project.
The minister of state for water resources and water supply, Mukesh Patel, said that the government has approved a sum of ₹2,302.92 cr to install two water transportation pipelines in Kutch district.
Phase-I under process, phase-II, tenders invited
This project was initiated in two phases, and the tendering process for phase-I was completed, while for phase II, tenders were invited.
Phase-I of this project is under process, for which the government approved ₹4,369 cr in Jan 2022. Under this phase, irrigation channels in Anjar, Mundra, Mandvi, and Bhuj will get water, and 47 villages covering 38,824 hectares of land through the Southern link and high contour storage link.
Whereas, through the Northern link, 12 irrigation channels in 22 talukas covering 36,392 hectares of land will benefit.
Under phase-II, 28 irrigation schemes in Mandvi, Nakhatrana, Lakhpat, and Abdasa talukas will get water from Southern Link, benefiting 36,514 hectares of land.
After the completion of phase-II in 2025, a total of 41 irrigation channels in four talukas of Kutch will get water.
It will benefit 68,195 hectares of land in 53 villages through irrigation.
