Kutch hotel owner, associates arrested with cocaine worth ₹1.47 cr
A team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Lakadiya police were checking vehicles on the Kutch highway when they noticed an EcoSport car with Haryana registration plate near Bharat Hotel on Thursday evening.
The car had four people inside, including two men and two women. When the police searched the vehicle, they found a plastic bag hidden under the air filter, containing cocaine. The FSL confirmed the substance to be cocaine. Weighing 147.67 grams, its market worth is ₹1.47 crore.
The arrested individuals were taken to the Lakadiya police station, and a case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused were identified as Honey Singh, driver, and his companions Suman Kaur, Sandeep Singh, and Arshdeep Kaur. Belonging to different villages in Punjab, they were travelling to deliver the drugs to truck drivers in Kutch.
According to Honey, he was instructed by a man named Sunny Singh, the owner of Ashish Sandhu Sardar Punjabi Hotel in Lakadiya, to deliver the drugs.
Police believe that Sunny is deeply involved in supplying drugs, as his family and friends have also been implicated in smuggling drugs into Kutch. Suman had three mobile phones, and the police seized the car and several other items, including six phones valued at ₹80,000.
This isn’t the first time Sunny has been in trouble with the law; he was previously involved in a case of attempted murder. Authorities now suspect that both Sunny and his friend Honey are running a drug racket between Haryana and Kutch, using their hotel as a cover for their operations. The police are investigating how often drugs have been brought into Kutch and whether there are other networks involved.
