Kite flying accidents claim 5 lives in Gujarat on Uttarayan
Uttarayan celebrations in Gujarat turned tragic for several people who were injured by kite strings on Tuesday. Five persons succumbed to their, including children and women.
Incidents of kite string injuries have been reported from Panchmahal, Vadodara, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Mehsana.
In Halol, Panchmahal a 5-year-old boy named Kunal lost his life after his neck was cut by a kite string while he was riding a bike with his father. The child was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead after brief treatment. Police have sent the body for postmortem and will investigate whether the kite string was Chinese thread.
In Rajkot, a young man passing through Kuvadva Road had his neck caught by a kite string, resulting in fatal injuries. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died.
In Surendranagar’s Patdi, a youth named Ishwar Thakor was also killed after a kite string struck his neck, causing severe injury. He succumbed to his injury before reaching the hospital.
In Vadodara, multiple incidents of serious injuries from kite strings were reported.
In Chani, a woman named Madhuri Patel (35) died from the injuries caused by a kite string. Another young man from Karkhadi village suffered serious neck injuries in Padra, resulting in 30 stitches.
In Karjan, a bike rider was also seriously injured by a kite string. Similarly, in Sayajigunj area of Vadodara city, a youth named Chintan Patel was injured and required immediate treatment.
In Mehsana’s Vadnagar, a man named Mansaji Thakor, while returning home on his bike after work, was critically injured on his neck by a kite string. He died after being rushed to the hospital.
In Bhavnagar, two separate incidents involving kite strings occurred. A 3-year-old girl named Janvi Baraiya was severely injured, and an individual named Nikul Parmar also suffered serious neck injuries.
In Kadi, a 22-year-old woman named Hemani Pandya was injured when a kite string cut her neck while she was riding her Activa bike. She has received four stitches on her neck.
These tragic incidents highlight the dangers associated with kite flying during the Uttarayan festival, leading to fatalities and serious injuries.
