Abduction Row: Gujarat HC Grants Protection to Singer Kinjal Rabari and Husband, Stays Criminal Proceedings

The Gujarat High Court has granted interim relief in the criminal proceedings involving Gujarati singer Kinjal Rabari and her husband, Ashok Chaudhari, and directed the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner to provide immediate police protection to the couple.

Rabari, 24, appeared before the court through video conference and told the bench that she was living with Chaudhari of her own free will. She denied allegations that she had been abducted or forced to stay with him. Chaudhari was also present during the proceedings.

Couple Seeks Police Protection

Counsel appearing for the couple submitted that they were facing serious threats to their lives and sought urgent protection from the authorities.

Taking note of the safety concerns, a single-judge bench directed the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner to make necessary arrangements for the couple's protection. The court also directed the Additional Public Prosecutor to ensure that no harm comes to them.

Court Notes Rabari Is an Adult

During the hearing, Rabari maintained that she had voluntarily chosen to live with her husband. The court took note of the fact that she is an adult and capable of making decisions regarding her personal life.

The court observed that, in view of Rabari's statement that she was living with her husband willingly, the criminal proceedings could not be allowed to continue in a manner that amounted to an abuse of the process of law.

FIR Filed Over Alleged Abduction

The matter stems from an FIR registered at Chandkheda Police Station on September 6, 2026, following a complaint alleging that Rabari had been abducted in a vehicle outside a local mall.

The allegation prompted a police investigation. The case subsequently took a different turn after Rabari gave a statement clarifying that she had left voluntarily with Chaudhari.

Couple Claims Family Pressure

According to the submissions before the court, Rabari and Chaudhari had married in May 2024 according to Hindu rituals. They allegedly faced opposition and pressure from family members, resulting in their separation.

Rabari has now maintained before the High Court that she wants to live with Chaudhari and that her decision was voluntary.
