The Kankaria Zoo will celebrate World Bee Day on May 20 with a special awareness exhibition aimed at educating visitors about the ecological importance of bees and other pollinating insects.

The event, scheduled to begin at 9.30 am, is being organised in collaboration with the Sah Astitva Nature Foundation at the zoo premises.

According to organisers, the primary objective of the programme is to spread awareness about the crucial role played by bees in maintaining ecological balance and supporting agricultural productivity through pollination.

Officials said the initiative comes amid growing global concern over the declining population of bees, a trend that experts warn could have serious consequences for biodiversity, food production and the environment.

As part of the event, visitors will be provided free information on various species of bees and their significance in nature. Educational displays and interactive exhibits will also explain the process of beekeeping, honey production and the role of bees in sustaining ecosystems.

The organisers said special emphasis would be laid on creating awareness about stingless bees and their environmental benefits.

The exhibition will also highlight the importance of pollinators through demonstrations and informative sessions aimed at children, families and nature enthusiasts visiting the zoo.

The zoo authorities have appealed to citizens to participate enthusiastically in the programme and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of bees in protecting nature and the environment.
