Sola police have registered a case against a 34-year-old travel agent for allegedly cheating a Kadi-based couple of ₹28 lakh by promising them jobs and work permits in Finland.

The complainant, used-car dealer Parag Patel, alleged that Rohit Natwarlal Sharma took the money after assuring him and his 22-year-old wife, Rajkumari, that he could arrange employment and work permits for both of them in Finland.

According to the complaint, Patel was introduced to Sharma by an acquaintance in October 2025. Sharma, who operates Mahant Travels at Ratna Business Square Complex on Ashram Road, allegedly offered to arrange the couple’s travel, work permits and jobs in Finland for ₹28 lakh.

Sharma allegedly first asked Patel for ₹9 lakh to begin the process. On October 30, Patel allegedly paid the amount in cash at Sharma’s flat in Neha Apartment, Chanakyapuri. He later took the couple to his office and gave them printed copies of purported job offer letters.

In November, Sharma allegedly demanded another ₹10 lakh, claiming it was needed to process their work permits and passports. Patel alleged that he paid the amount in cash at Sharma’s residence.

Sharma subsequently sent copies of purported Finland visas to Patel via WhatsApp. The couple then underwent medical examinations at Apollo Hospital on November 10.

Couple Made Repeated Trips to Mumbai

The complainant alleged that Sharma later demanded another ₹9 lakh, claiming the work permits had been issued and the remaining payment was required before arranging air tickets.

After Patel allegedly paid the amount at Sharma’s residence, Sharma provided a purported copy of the work permit from his office.

The couple then prepared to travel to Finland. Sharma allegedly sent them an airline ticket showing a January 30, 2026 departure from Mumbai to Doha and onward to Finland.

When the couple travelled to Mumbai as instructed, Patel alleged that Sharma told them the ticket had been cancelled and brought them back to Ahmedabad.

Sharma allegedly gave them another travel date in February, but that plan also failed. After the couple said they no longer wanted to travel and demanded a refund, Sharma allegedly gave them another date and took them to Mumbai airport on February 27.

However, Patel alleged that Sharma returned their passports at the airport without valid Finland visas, leaving the couple unable to travel.

The complainant said he repeatedly demanded the return of ₹28 lakh, but Sharma allegedly neither refunded the money nor provided genuine work permits or jobs in Finland.

Police have registered a case based on the complaint and launched an investigation. They are examining the documents and WhatsApp communications allegedly sent by Sharma, along with the financial transactions and possible involvement of others in the alleged visa fraud.
