Junagadh hospital fined ₹12.5 lakh after 76 surgeries allegedly billed under PMJAY in name of doctor who left in 2024

A major irregularity has allegedly surfaced at K J Hospital in Gujarat’s Junagadh district, where surgeries under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) were reportedly shown in the name of a doctor who had already left the hospital months earlier.
According to officials, an audit conducted by the insurance company associated with PMJAY found that 76 surgeries carried out between December 2024 and October 7, 2025 were allegedly recorded in the name of Dr Srinivas Kumaran, who was reportedly associated with the hospital only until December 2024.
The audit report was submitted to the Health Department on January 23, 2026.
Authorities said the hospital later claimed that the surgeries had actually been performed by Dr S Dinesh.
However, officials alleged that Dr Dinesh was not authorised to conduct surgical procedures.
Following the findings, the Health Department imposed a penalty of ₹12.50 lakh on the hospital and issued a show-cause notice seeking an explanation regarding the alleged irregularities.
The hospital, located near Jhanjarda Chowkdi in Junagadh, has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
