Four thieves stole gold jewellery worth more than ₹11.5 lakh by threatening the owner, Amrut Mali, at gun- and knife-point in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar on the night of Feb 21.

The theft took place at Jay Bhavani jewellers, a dealer of gold and silver ornaments located near Bhairavnath crossroad, at around 9 p.m.

The thieves barged into the shop, and one of them held a revolver in front of Mali and started assaulting him.

They threatened, “Isko thok dete hai (let’s shoot him).” Hearing this, Mali was extremely frightened and was made to sit in a corner.

After which, in reportedly 58 seconds, the robbers stole rings, chains, and other jewellery kept for display at the shop, and put them in their bags.

They had snatched Mali’s mobile phone and later evaded the scene on their scooter and a bike stationed nearby.

Mali contacted the police control room immediately after, and Maninagar police rushed to the scene.

Primary investigation revealed the losses incurred by Mali were to the tune of ₹11.63 lakh.

Speaking on this incident, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) PG Jadeja said, “The case is being investigated by Maninagar police along with DCP (deputy commissioner of police) zone-6 and a crime branch team. The heist was recorded on the shop’s CCTV camera, clearly capturing the miscreants’ faces. According to this, a probe has been launched.”

The police have reportedly gained several leads in this case.
