The first session results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main for admission to undergraduate engineering courses have been declared, with a student from Rajkot securing a perfect 100 percentile and placing among the top 12 candidates nationwide.

 Rajkot student among national toppers

According to the results released by the National Testing Agency (NTA), a score of 291 out of 300 fetched a 100 percentile in this year’s examination. In 2024, 14 candidates across the country had achieved the top percentile; this year, the number stands at 12.

While several students from Ahmedabad recorded scores of 99.99 percentile, none featured among the national toppers. Niyam Purohit, who scored 291 marks, emerged as the Gujarat topper.

In all, 47,610 students from Gujarat appeared for JEE Main Session 1. The examination was conducted between January 21 and 29 across 326 cities, including 15 international locations, at 658 centres, and in 13 languages.

Candidate turnout and exam details

Nationally, 13,55,293 candidates registered for the examination, of whom 13,04,546 appeared. This included 4,49,568 female candidates and 8,55,085 male candidates. The NTA has announced results for Paper 1 (BE/BTech) of JEE Main; results for other papers are awaited.

JEE Main is one of the key gateways for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes across India, including seats at centrally funded technical institutions and eligibility for JEE Advanced.

Google launches free AI-powered JEE mock tests

Coinciding with the announcement of the results, Google has introduced free, AI-powered mock tests for JEE aspirants through its chatbot, Google Gemini.

The mock tests are aligned with the current JEE syllabus and are designed to reflect the difficulty level of the actual examination. After completing a test, students receive performance analysis highlighting strengths and weaknesses, along with a suggested study plan.

The feature is available at no cost and requires only a login on Gemini, with no subscription needed. In addition to mock tests, the tool allows students to upload notes, generate quizzes and access concise explanations of key concepts.

Investment in India’s education ecosystem

With this move, Google has effectively entered India’s estimated ₹1 lakh crore coaching market. The company has announced plans to invest ₹85 crore in expanding AI-based learning tools in the country, with a stated goal of reaching 7.5 crore students and 18 lakh teachers by 2027.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, has previously spoken about the potential of artificial intelligence to widen access to quality education.

The near-simultaneous release of JEE Main results and the launch of free AI-based preparation tools underscores a moment of transition for engineering aspirants, as traditional high-stakes examinations increasingly intersect with new forms of digital academic support.
