Jain community outraged after deity's idols vandalised in Panchmahal
There was widespread outrage after three idols, including that of Lord Mahavir Swami, were vandalised at a Jain temple in Dhaneshwar village near Ghoghamba in Panchmahal district. Following the incident on Monday, the police detained several suspects on Tuesday and began their questioning.
Meanwhile, the leaders of Jain community submitted a representation to Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi regarding the matter.
The temple of Lord Mahavir Swami is located in the premises of Vijay Indra Jagat Vidyalaya in Dhaneshwar village. On Sunday, some unidentified individuals broke into the temple and vandalised the idol of Lord Mahavir Swami.
The statue of Gautam Swami, installed outside the sanctum, was severely destroyed, and the head of Vallabhsuri Maharaj’s idol was severed from the body. The news of this incident spread rapidly, leading to great outrage among the Jain community.
On Tuesday, Jain leaders met Raigadh Police Inspector B T Butiya in Ghoghamba seeking justice.
They stated that millions of Jains worldwide have been deeply hurt by this act. Considering the gravity of the matter, the police have intensified their investigation, examining CCTV footage and interrogating suspects to identify those responsible for the incident.
