“Artificial Intelligence (AI) may rule in future, but since it lacks humanity and soul, it can never replace humans,” were the words of ISRO chair S Somanath, during his address at Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad, attending the ongoing Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan.
He further added that if AI turns out to be like humans, then it would be dangerous.
Taking the point from technological advancements to brain drain, the ISRO chair suggested to the students present at the event that they can look towards foreign countries while pursuing higher education, but should come back to India.
“Keep working for your own development rather than working for the country. We need to make a country where people from other countries seek us,” he said.
Linking the science-based research to real-life problem solving, he added, “The field you research in should reach the product. We need to create strong research-industry linkages.”
S Somanath also met Gujarat governor Acharya Devvrat at Raj Bhavan, the governor’s office on Dec 21. ISRO’s senior project scientist Rajan Pillai was also present during the visit. Devvrat honoured both dignitaries and said that India will always be indebted to ISRO for the honour it has brought to the country with the Chandrayaan mission. The ISRO chief also presented the governor with a replica of the launch vehicle used for the launch of Chandrayaan.
