Unidentified burglars broke into a locked house in Isanpur and decamped with cash and valuables worth more than ₹9.13 lakh while the family was away on a pilgrimage, police said on Sunday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Isanpur police station, the burglary occurred between 1 pm on January 3 and around 10 am on January 4 at a residence in Ratnadeep Society in Isanpur.
The complainant, Dilipkumar Mafatlal Thakkar (45), an LIC agent who has been residing at the address for over two decades, told the police that he, his wife Jayshreeben and their driver had left for Ambaji on the afternoon of January 3 and stayed there overnight. The theft came to light on January 4 after the society chairman informed him that the lock of his house appeared to have been broken.
When the family returned home around noon, they found the main door lock damaged and the grill broken. Inside, cupboards had been forced open, and household items were strewn across the rooms, the complaint said.
Police said the burglars made away with Rs 6 lakh in cash, a gold chain, a gold pendant, a gold anklet, a gold ring, silver biscuits and coins, a silver lamp, and brass coins worth ₹3.15 lakh. The total value of stolen property has been assessed at ₹9,13 lakh, police said.
