Amid complaints of diesel shortages, long queues at petrol pumps and rising inflation in Gujarat, criticism has intensified over large-scale preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) final in Ahmedabad, with farmer groups and opposition voices questioning the government’s priorities during the ongoing fuel crisis.

Farmers and transport operators in parts of Gujarat have reported long queues at petrol pumps and restricted fuel supplies as concerns over the impact of tensions in the Middle East continue to affect global oil markets.

The situation has particularly affected farmers during the sowing season, with several districts witnessing complaints of diesel shortages and increased operational costs.

Amid the situation, criticism has emerged over the large-scale arrangements being made for the IPL final scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad later this week.

Critics have questioned the government’s priorities, arguing that large public gatherings and increased vehicular movement associated with the cricket event could further add to fuel consumption during a period of supply concerns.

Farmer organisations, including members associated with the Kisan Sangh, have reportedly demanded reconsideration of the event in view of the prevailing fuel situation and inflationary pressure on the public.

Some transport operators and passengers have also pointed to rising airfare prices and alleged black marketing of IPL tickets ahead of the final.

Political analysts said the debate around the IPL final has increasingly become linked with broader public concerns over inflation, fuel prices and administrative preparedness during the ongoing economic uncertainty.

They noted that while the IPL remains one of the country’s biggest sporting events, sections of the public believe greater focus is needed on addressing ground-level economic and supply challenges affecting ordinary citizens.

The state government has not officially commented on demands for reconsideration or criticism related to the hosting of the IPL final.

Meanwhile, preparations for the high-profile cricket event continue in Ahmedabad, with large crowds expected to attend the match later this week.
