IPL fans in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi-Chandigarh boost food delivery sales

Following the Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings match on June 1, cricket fans in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi-Chandigarh had already locked in their IPL plans — along with their food delivery menus — two days in advance, ready to enjoy the big match from 7 pm onwards.
Pizza & vadapav craze
In Ahmedabad, food delivery orders from three major delivery websites and nearly 300 local brands saw a 30% spike. Pizza and vada pav were the fan favorites, reflecting the cricket craze. Many youngsters organised group screenings of IPL final at farms, hotels, or outskirts lounges and placed bulk food orders. However, in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, some fast-food joints, due to limited staffing, had to restrict services and issued online apologies.
As the IPL final reached its climax, the number of food delivery boys in uniforms increased significantly on Ahmedabad’s roads. In Delhi-Chandigarh too, food deliveries rose by 7% compared to usual. As Royal Challengers Bangalore inched closer to victory, crowds swelled late into the night at restaurants across Bengaluru.
Ahmedabad, being the host city of the final match, saw hotels, restaurants, and fast-food stalls across Chandkheda, Gandhinagar, and Satellite teeming with cricket fans till 3 am. Over 1 lakh spectators exited the Motera-Chandkheda zone, causing major food streets across Ahmedabad to overflow with customers. Those who watched from home set new records by placing food orders online — and it's no exaggeration.
Similar scenes played out in Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara, where local clubs and residential societies held screenings and enjoyed food. In Surat and Rajkot alone, thousands indulged in pre-ordered or street food, with consumption 30% higher than usual. Along with the three popular national food delivery platforms, the addition of local delivery systems made access even smoother for customers.
