Inebriated man booked for chasing woman in car late at night in Shahibaug

In a late-night incident that sparked panic among residents, a 31-year-old man from Ranip was booked by the Madhavpura police for allegedly following a woman's car, chasing her into her housing society, and attempting to open her car door in an inebriated state on Sunday night in Ahmedabad’s Shahibaug area.
Niyati Nebhani, a first-year BCom student residing near Namaste Circle, in her complaint states the incident occurred around 11 pm on November 9 when she was returning home from Keshavnagar after dropping off her relatives.
Niyati stated that as she was descending Subhash Bridge, she noticed an orange Ford EcoSport following her vehicle closely. “The car kept chasing her till she entered her society compound. The driver then stopped behind her car, got out, and tried to forcibly open her car door. Frightened, she immediately locked her car,” said the police.
Hearing her cries for help, several residents of the society, along with her father, Hareshbhai, rushed to the compound. The accused, who identified himself as Laxman Marwadi, a resident of Ranip, was confronted by the residents. During questioning, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol emanating from him.
Residents detained Laxman and called the police control room. A police team from Madhavpura police station reached the spot shortly thereafter. Officers confirmed that the accused appeared intoxicated, and no alcohol bottles were found in his vehicle during a search.
Based on the complaint, Madhavpura police have registered an FIR against Laxman Marwadi under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) about harassment, criminal intimidation, and driving under the influence of alcohol under the Motor Vehicles Act.
“The accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was driving rashly. A detailed investigation is underway to determine whether he had any prior acquaintance with the complainant or if this was a random act,” said a police official.
