An Indian Coast Guard helicopter crashed at Porbandar airport in Gujarat, resulting in the deaths of three crew members, including two pilots on Sunday. The incident took place at approximately 12.10 pm, according to Porbandar Superintendent of Police Bhagirathsinh Jadeja.
The Coast Guard’s Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) was conducting a routine training sortie when it crashed while attempting to land at Porbandar airport.
As per reports, the helicopter which had three crew members onboard went down at the airport. Rescue teams quickly reached the site and pulled the crew members from the wreckage. They were then rushed to a nearby hospital in Porbandar with severe burn injuries.
Despite efforts to save them, all three crew members succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, confirmed Inspector Rajesh Kanmiya from Kamala Baug police station.
ICG officials have confirmed the fatalities and stated that an investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.
Earlier in September, two ICG pilots and a crew member went missing as CG’s HAL Dhruv helicopter, working with flood-related rescue operations in Gujarat, had to make an emergency landing and ditched into the sea on September 2 near Porbandar.
Officials close to the development said that a diver was rescued after an emergency landing. But three others were still missing.
