IMFL worth ₹9 lakh seized in raid on Ambaji-Himatnagar Highway

In a crackdown on liquor smuggling, the Banaskantha police on Thursday seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth over ₹9.56 lakh from a vehicle during a raid conducted near Chikhla village on the Ambaji-Himmatnagar highway.

A Scorpio vehicle suspected to be used for transporting the contraband was also seized, taking the total value of seized property to ₹19.56 lakh.

The raid was carried out by a team of Gujarat Police's State Monitoring Cell (SMC). Acting on a tip-off, the team intercepted a Scorpio near Shivadatt Nala, Ambaji taluka, where they recovered 3,720 bottles of IMFL worth ₹9.56 lakh being illegally transported.

According to officials, the contraband was being moved in violation of Gujarat’s Prohibition Act. A case has been registered under various sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act. The seized vehicle alone is estimated to be worth ₹10 lakh.

Police have identified four individuals as wanted in the case, including the owner and driver of the Scorpio, the contractor allegedly responsible for dispatching the liquor from a warehouse, and the intended recipient of the consignment.

No arrests have been made so far, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and destination of the illicit consignment.
