IMD predicts torrential rains in Saurashtra, South Gujarat, red alert issued

Heavy rains lashed several parts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat today, with flood-like situations in areas surrounding Rajkot, Porbandar, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Gir Somnath.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts in many districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming five days.

The IMD has issued a red alert in Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Navsari, and Valsad districts.

Predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Jamnagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, and Dang districts, IMD has issued an orange alert.

A yellow alert has been declared in districts including Kutch, Morbi, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Botad, Anand, Vadodara, Narmada, Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhotaudepur, and Mahisagar.

In view of the red alert issued for two consecutive days in Gir Somnath, Valsad, and Navsari districts, people have been advised to remain vigilant, and fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the sea.

IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state for the next five days, while the rainfall activity is expected to be subdued on July 25–26.
