IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Parts of Gujarat as Monsoon Activity Set to Intensify This Weekend

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Gujarat over the next few days, with monsoon activity expected to intensify on August 8 and 9 under the influence of an active monsoon trough and a western disturbance. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely across large parts of the state, while a yellow alert has been issued for parts of north Gujarat.

According to the IMD, rainfall activity is expected to increase across north and south Gujarat over the weekend, with Saurashtra and Kutch also likely to receive light to moderate showers at isolated to scattered places.

Yellow Alert for North Gujarat

IMD Director A.K. Das said the prevailing monsoon trough, coupled with a western disturbance, is likely to strengthen rainfall activity across Gujarat over the coming days.

A yellow alert has been issued for Sabarkantha and Aravalli districts on August 8, where rainfall is expected to intensify at isolated places.

On August 9, the alert extends to Vav, Tharad, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Aravalli districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of up to 30-40 kmph are also likely across several parts of the state.

District-Wise Rainfall Forecast

On August 6, light to moderate rain is expected in Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Dang, and the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Similar weather conditions are forecast for August 7 in Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Dang, as well as Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The IMD has also forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across several other parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and districts in Saurashtra and Kutch. From August 8 to August 11, rainfall is expected to become more widespread across the state.

Cloudy Weather Likely in Ahmedabad

For Ahmedabad and surrounding areas, the IMD has forecast generally cloudy skies with a strong possibility of one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on August 7. Intermittent showers are expected to continue over the following days as monsoon activity strengthens.

Fishermen Advised to Stay Ashore

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea during the forecast period due to the likelihood of rough sea conditions.

Authorities have also urged residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories as rainfall activity is expected to intensify over the weekend.

Monsoon Conditions to Continue

According to the IMD's outlook, no major change in the prevailing weather pattern is expected between August 13 and 15, with monsoon conditions likely to persist across Gujarat.
