The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over southwest Madhya Pradesh and southeast Rajasthan, some regions of Gujarat today and on Sept 17.

The IMD predicted extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat region today and Sept 18 with exceptionally heavy rainfall (more than 30 cm) at one or two places over east Gujarat region today. 

Ahmedabad’s Met Centre issued four days of heavy rain in Gujarat. Five districts, including Surat, the Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and Dadra Nagar Haveli, will receive heavy rainfall.

While some parts of the Saurashtra region will be deprived of rain, Gir, Amreli, Khambhat, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, and Porbandar may witness heavy rainfall. Moreover, heavy rainfall is forecast for Vadodara, central Gujarat, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar.

In central and west India, the weather forecast predicts light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms that are expected to be fairly widespread to widespread. Additionally, there is a likelihood of lightning, along with isolated instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The IMD daily bulletin read that specifically, west Madhya Pradesh can anticipate these conditions from today till Sept 18, north Konkan and Maharashtra from today and Sept 17, whereas,  Gujarat region till Sept19, and Saurashtra and Kutch till Sept 20.

Heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand

It further predicted that in Northwest India, there is a forecast of light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls expected over Uttarakhand till Sept 18, and Himachal Pradesh today.

In East India, the prediction includes light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms that are fairly widespread to widespread. 

Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Sept 18 and Odisha on Sept 19 and 20.

Southern India’s prediction

“South India can anticipate light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated instances of heavy rainfall, particularly over interior Tamil Nadu today and on Sept 17, and coastal & south interior Karnataka today,” said the weather forecast agency.

In northeast India, there is a forecast of light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms. 

“Isolated heavy rainfall activity is expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Sept 20, Assam and Meghalaya from Sept 18 to 20, and Arunachal Pradesh on Sept 20,” said the IMD.
