IMD issues 5-day rain alert for Gujarat as thunderstorms, strong winds likely across several districts
People in Gujarat may finally get relief from the intense heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain with thunder for the next five days starting from Sunday. Strong winds of 40 to 50 km per hour are also expected in many areas.
According to the weather department, pre-monsoon activity has increased due to humid winds coming from the Arabian Sea. Because of this, several districts may receive rain, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms.
Heavy rain is likely in Banaskantha, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Dahod, and Mahisagar. On Monday, rain is expected in Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, and Narmada. Strong winds may continue during this period.
The department has also warned that hailstorms are possible in Narmada, Dang, and Tapi on Thursday. Wind speeds may reach 50 to 60 km per hour in some places. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar.
The monsoon is currently moving toward the Arabian Sea and South India. As a result, moisture-laden winds have started reaching Gujarat. The temperature may fall by 3 to 5°C, bringing some relief from the hot and humid weather.
The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds. Farmers and residents in affected districts have been asked to keep an eye on weather updates and take necessary precautions to avoid damage to crops and property.
IMD said that while rainfall may provide relief from the heat, temperatures are expected to remain relatively high over the next five days. Humidity levels may also stay elevated in some regions, causing discomfort despite the expected drop in temperature.
Today, many parts of Gujarat witnessed cloudy skies and a change in weather conditions. The atmosphere felt cooler, creating a pre-monsoon-like environment after several days of extreme heat and humidity.
