A 52-year-old ICU staff nurse from Maninagar has filed an FIR with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) alleging that a Khokhra resident illegally lent her money at an exorbitant interest rate, extorted more than triple the principal amount, seized her son’s motorcycle and repeatedly threatened to “sell the house” if she failed to pay further.
The complaint, filed by Pinakini Daniel Master, states that the accused, Kishore Thadani, had been acquainted with her husband for more than a decade. As per the FIR, Thadani had previously lent small loans on interest to her husband, which were duly repaid. Over time, the family continued approaching him whenever they faced financial difficulty.
Between November 3, 2022 and September 5, 2024, Pinakini alleges that the family borrowed ₹3.57 lakh from Thadani, who transferred the money through online payments into her account. The FIR states that Thadani charged an illegal and exorbitant interest rate, described as “10.10%”, despite not possessing a moneylender’s licence.
As per the FIR, between August 19, 2022 and August 19, 2025, the family repaid ₹9.39 lakh to Thadani from her account and a further ₹3.16 lakh was paid from her son’s account
In addition, in January 2025, ahead of her daughter’s wedding, Thadani allegedly lent the family ₹1.80 lakh in cash, for which no written proof exists. The FIR says that the family repaid ₹1.30 lakh in instalments by May — ₹1 lakh drawn from her brother’s account and ₹70,000 paid by cheque.
Despite repayments totalling ₹10.96 lakh, the victim alleges that Thadani continued to visit their home, demanding an additional ₹4.70 lakh, and issued threats that he would “sell the house” if the money was not paid.
The complainant further alleged that Thadani forcibly took away her son’s bike returning it only after a long period. She stated that the constant threats and harassment became so severe that the family would “lock themselves inside” to avoid him.
Pinakini, who works as an ICU nurse at IKDRC, Civil Hospital, Asarwa, said the accused 'tortured' her family to the extent that they were afraid to step out of their home.
Police have registered a case under sections pertaining to extortion, criminal intimidation, illegal moneylending, and breach of trust. Further investigation is underway.
