IIT Bombay Remains First Choice of JEE Advanced Toppers

IIT Bombay has once again remained the first choice of students who secured top ranks in JEE Advanced 2026. At the same time, not a single student among the top 1,000 rankers in the country took admission to IIT Gandhinagar, according to the 2026 admission report.

The report shows that IIT Gandhinagar continues to remain less preferred by students with very high ranks. Among the top 2,000 JEE Advanced rankers, only seven students joined IIT Gandhinagar. Among the top 5,000 rankers, 81 students took admission to the institute.

A total of 361 students took admission to IIT Gandhinagar this year. Around 20% of these students are girls. However, despite the overall admissions, the institute could not attract any student from the top 1,000 ranks of the JEE Advanced examination.

No Top-1,000 Student Chose IIT Gandhinagar

The trend has continued for the past five years. According to the admission data, IIT Gandhinagar has not received a single student from the country's top 1,000 JEE Advanced rankers during this period.

The figures also show that IIT Gandhinagar has not become the first choice even among students from Gujarat who secured high ranks in JEE Advanced. Every year, around 40 to 50 students from Gujarat are among the country's top 1,000 rankers.

The admission process for IITs is conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) after the JEE Advanced results are announced. Students are given several rounds to choose their preferred institutes and courses. After the admission rounds are completed, the final admission data is prepared.

IIT Bombay Attracts The Highest Number of Toppers

IIT Bombay continued to attract a large number of high-ranking students in 2026. According to the report, 764 students from the top 5,000 JEE Advanced ranks took admission to IIT Bombay, making it the most preferred IIT among top rankers.

The preference for IIT Bombay is also visible among students with very high ranks. A large number of students from the top 100, top 200 and top 500 ranks chose the institute. This shows the strong preference for IIT Bombay among students who perform exceptionally well in JEE Advanced.

There are 23 IITs across the country, and students select institutes based on factors such as their preferred course, academic reputation, placements and location. IIT Bombay has continued to remain a leading choice for students with top ranks.

The latest admission figures also show that IIT Gandhinagar has attracted hundreds of students overall. However, the absence of students from the top 1,000 ranks remains a notable point in the 2026 admission data.

The figures indicate that while IIT Gandhinagar continues to admit students from across the country, students with the highest JEE Advanced ranks are still more likely to choose other IITs, particularly IIT Bombay.
