IIMA student uses ChatGpt in project gets A plus social media divided in AI debate

In a world where Artificial Intelligence is treated as the ‘elephant in the room’, an Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) student used Chatgpt in a project and scored an A+.

Yugantar Gupta, an IIMA student took to his LinkedIn, “I used ChatGPT while making my project. It got an A+. Getting an A+ on any report is difficult at IIM Ahmedabad. Some professors don’t give it to anyone at all, as a policy. Most restrict it to the top 5% or fewer.”

Gupta articulated how he used Chatgpt for his secondary research.

“We had to prepare a research project on cosmetics. So I went to a nearby mall and visited every cosmetics shop there. From Lifestyle to Forest Essentials to Smytten - around 8 shops in all,” he said.

“I discreetly observed shopper behaviour - what kinds of customers came, what kinds of questions they asked, what they ended up buying. I chatted up with the salespeople asking them for gift recommendations for my (imaginary) girlfriend. And what they had observed over the months,” he added.

He sent himself some voice notes while studying the interactions. Later, he used ChatGpt to furnish a report on the transcript of his observations.

He claimed that he got an A+ on that project. The comments soon divided into different opinions. “You missed the joy of writing the report but wrote this post. Odd isn't it? Law firms are advising their juniors to desist from using AI as it is throwing up false cases. The Prof had no choice. How can he prevent AI in the evaluation process?” said a LinkedIn user.

“What a wonderful insight! I was wondering for so long, how to differentiate my work from others because everyone uses AI these days,” said another.

Another user said, “Writing is a mental exercise in storytelling. Don’t let it die.”
