IIM Ahmedabad sees decline in overseas placements, only two students placed abroad in 2025

India’s top-ranked management institute IIM Ahmedabad has reported a significant drop in international placements this year with only two MBA students securing jobs outside the country.

A decade ago, the numbers were far higher. In 2011, 26 students received job offers overseas, and in 2012 that figure rose to 30, the highest-ever. However, in recent years, the count of overseas postings has steadily declined.

While the institute continues to place students in large numbers with multinational firms, most offers are now India-based or from Asian regions. Job opportunities from the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Russia and Europe have reduced sharply.

IIM-A’s intake has also increased over time from around 300 students in 2011 to nearly 400 now.

In 2011, 260 of 304 students were placed in Indian cities, while 26 got international roles. In 2012, a record 30 students among 395 received job offers overseas mainly in Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Malaysia and various African countries. Very few went to the US, UK (London), Germany, Canada, Russia or other European nations.

Industry experts say the decline in international placements is linked to global instability, economic volatility, and foreign policy shifts across countries.

This year, only two IIM-A students received international offers, one of them in Dubai.
