Hybrid ganja worth ₹12 crore seized at Ahmedabad airport, four arrested
Customs and security agencies have busted a major international drug trafficking racket at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, seizing drugs worth ₹12 crore following a specific tip-off.
The seizure was made during checks on four passengers — identified as Ajay Pandey, Sandeep, Roni and Manpreet — who arrived in Ahmedabad on a flight from Malaysia. Officials said the men were intercepted after their movements aroused suspicion.
A detailed search and scanning of their baggage led to the recovery of around 12.4 kg of hybrid ganja, a high-value narcotic with a significant demand in overseas markets. The seized drugs were valued at approximately ₹12 crore in the international market. The contraband has been confiscated and the four suspects have been taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the accused is a resident of Vadodara in Gujarat, while the other three are from Jalandhar in Punjab. Officials said the group had travelled from Bangkok to Ahmedabad via Kuala Lumpur on a Malaysia Airlines flight.
Investigators believe the consignment was intended to be supplied to various states, including Gujarat. Further investigations are under way to establish the accused persons’ links with an international drug syndicate and to identify other individuals involved in the racket.
