Hybrid drugs worth ₹2.38 cr seized in Gandhinagar, two held

Gandhinagar police seized hybrid weed worth ₹2.38 crore from a luxury bus during a routine check near Chiloda on the Ahmedabad – Himmatnagar highway on Saturday. The operation was conducted by Chiloda Police Station, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.

Addressing the media, Gandhinagar ASP Ayush Jain (IPS) shared that during a surprise inspection, officers found the narcotics stashed in the luggage of a couple seated at the back of the bus. The accused identified as Rashid Mehmood Shaikh and Saba Rashid Shaikh  are residents of Mumbai. The consignment, intended for Bengaluru, was being smuggled across state lines from Delhi.

The seizure was made at Chandralaya Naka Point on the national highway, where police found 7.910 kilograms of hybrid weed sealed in black and transparent plastic bags inside the suspects' luggage. The total seizure included:

7.910 kg of hybrid weed worth ₹2,37,30,000

Two mobile phones worth ₹10,000

Cash amounting to ₹430

Two Indigo flight tickets

Aadhaar cards of both suspects

The combined value of seized items is ₹2,37,40,430.

Preliminary investigation confirmed the substance as hybrid weed based on its distinctive odor and appearance. The accused admitted during interrogation that they were planning to deliver the consignment in Bengaluru.

Legal action has been taken under relevant sections of the NDPS Act – Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 29. Further investigation is being carried out by the Gandhinagar Special Operations Group (SOG) to trace the source and network involved in the interstate smuggling operation.
