Gujarat Police’s ‘GP-SMASH’ resolved 310 online complaints in three months

GP-SMASH (Gujarat Police - Social Media Monitoring Awareness and Systematic Handling), an initiative of the state police, has resolved 310 out of 335 complaints received on social media since its launch on March 1.
The GP-SMASH team on X listens to public concerns, complaints, and suggestions posted online with empathy and ensures that the issues are promptly forwarded to the appropriate officials for timely resolution.
Launched on March 1, 2025, the initiative has already received 335 complaints in three months, out of which 310 were successfully resolved, according to data released by the Home Department. The GP-SMASH team actively monitors crime-related activities and citizen complaints on social media platforms in real-time.
“Dedicated teams are also functioning across all districts, ranges, and units of the state. Citizens can tag their grievances and concerns to the Gujarat Police’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, @GujaratPolice,” the official statement said on Thursday.
The 335 queries and complaints have been tagged to the relevant district, range, or unit heads for timely resolution.
What is GP-SMASH?
GP-SMASH is a social media awareness and monitoring project. A state-level team keeps a 24/7 real-time watch over social media platforms for posts related to the police department, crime-related incidents, citizen complaints, and commendable work.
This team responds to posts tagging the Gujarat Police X handle within minutes. The team then alerts the concerned district, range, or unit heads regarding issues such as–Law and order, traffic problems, prohibition-related issues, and cyber fraud.
The respective heads are directed to conduct an immediate investigation and take appropriate action. Updates on the actions taken are then posted as comments on the original social media posts by the concerned authority.
