How an Amreli school is grooming kids in entrepreneurship learn and earn pay fees and support their families

In a remarkable initiative, students of Dr Kalam Innovative School in Amreli are earning money through entrepreneurship along with their studies. These young minds have collectively earned over ₹6 lakh in just a few months, using their skills to support their families and pay their school fees.

The idea for this unique initiative came after a heartbreaking incident last year when a student’s father had to sell his bike to pay ₹40,000 on yearly hostel fee for his son.

Shocked by the situation, the school authority decided to make the students independent. Jay Kathrotiya, director at school in a telephonic interview with Gujarat Samachar Digital said, “We decided to find a way for students to contribute financially while continuing their education. This led to the establishment of a startup studio within the school.”

“The startup studio is designed for students of Class 6 to 12, which provides them with an opportunity to learn and earn while staying in the school’s hostel. After their academic and sports activities, they spend extra time working on various projects,” he added.

The school has created a loss bank where losses are borne by the school and profit is divided among the students.

Equipped with modern machinery like laser cutting and mug printing, the studio enables students to create and sell different products. Currently, 18 students are actively engaged in this initiative, and in  the last 6 to 8 months, they have earned between ₹6 lakh and ₹8 lakh.

“Many students coming from remote villages are now helping their parents to pay the fees,” said Kathrotiya.

Initially, the startup sought B2B buyers but after the students’ achievement in Sattvik Food Festival in Ahmedabad and other programmes in Ahmedabad and Surendranagar, they are now selling the products B2C.

This initiative is not just helping students pay their fees, but also teaching them valuable entrepreneurial skills, ensuring they become financially independent. Their success story is inspiring other schools to think beyond traditional education and empower students with real-world skills.
