A 26-year-old video editor returned home from a family trip to discover that burglars had broken into his house in the Gomtipur area of Ahmedabad and decamped with cash and gold ornaments collectively valued at ₹1.27 lakh, prompting the police to register a case of house-breaking and theft.

The burglary took place sometime between 6 pm on June 11 and 3 pm on June 16, when the house was unoccupied. The complainant, Chirag Rakeshbhai Nandanwar, a resident of Patel Parmanand Chali on Rakhial Road and employed as a video editor with Sandesh Press in Vastrapur, had travelled to Nagpur with his parents and cousin, while his wife and five-month-old daughter were staying with relatives.

After returning to Ahmedabad on June 16, Chirag and his cousin reached their residence at around 3 pm and found that the main entrance was shut from inside despite the external lock being missing. A neighbour accessed the house through the terrace and opened the door from within.

On entering the premises, Chirag allegedly found that an iron safe on the ground floor had been opened and cash of ₹17,500 was missing. He later discovered that the key to an upstairs room, usually hidden beneath a Wi-Fi box, had disappeared. After forcing open the room with a hammer, he found that a wooden cupboard had been ransacked.

Police said the burglars allegedly escaped with another ₹35,000 in cash along with a gold mangalsutra weighing approximately 5.83 grams, valued at ₹42,900, a pair of gold earrings weighing around 2.25 grams worth ₹18,000, and a gold ring valued at ₹14,500. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at ₹1.27 lakh.

Investigators suspect that the accused entered the house after breaking the lock during the family's absence before targeting the safes containing cash and jewellery.

A case has been registered, and  Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the break-in and are expected to review available evidence, including local surveillance footage, to identify those responsible. No arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report.
