India will be hosting an ICC ODI World Cup 2023, first time as the sole host, later this year. The prices for hotel rooms in areas such as SG Highway, Motera, Ashram Road, and even in Gandhinagar have increased by 167% due to the India-Pakistan match scheduled for Oct 15 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Five-star hotels to cost more than ₹1 lakh

Rates of rooms at five-star hotels in Ahmedabad may cost more than ₹1 lakh. A few hours after the announcement of World Cup match fixtures, there had been a sudden surge in the demand for room bookings in five-star hotels. 

Online bookings closed

Due to the unprecedented demand, the hotels shut down their online booking site. Rooms are not available for Oct 15 at the many of the five-star hotels in Ahmedabad.

Three and four-star hotel rates also surges to ₹ 60,000

The President of Gujarat Hotel and Restaurant Association, Narendra Somani, reportedly said that due to the India-Pakistan match, bookings for stays on Oct 14 -15 are full. Cricket fans have started making advance bookings. 

Many five-star hotels have blocked the rooms. As per many booking sites, on normal days, room rent in luxury hotels hovers between ₹7,000 and ₹50,000 in the city. It has jumped to ₹1 lakh in some places for Oct 15. Three and four-star hotel rates have also surged to ₹60,000.
