In a shocking incident in Surat district’s Mangrol village, a horse accidentally bit off part of its owner’s thumb while he was feeding it a carrot. Doctors later successfully reattached the thumb after a four-hour surgery.

The injured man, Salimbhai, is originally from Mangrol but lives in the UK. He is a horse lover and owns four horses at his farmhouse. He often visits India to take care of them. Recently, he had bought a new horse worth around ₹12 lakh and was spending time training it.

The incident happened when Salimbhai was feeding a carrot to the horse. While taking the carrot, the horse accidentally bit off part of his right thumb.

His family immediately rushed him to a hospital in Surat. However, the severed thumb remained inside the horse’s mouth. Family members and farm workers managed to retrieve it after nearly an hour. The thumb was then placed in ice and quickly taken to the hospital.

Doctors at a private hospital in Surat’s Adajan area performed a four-hour microsurgery and successfully reattached the thumb. According to hospital sources, the operation was successful and Salimbhai’s condition is stable.

Doctors said that timely medical treatment and proper preservation of the severed thumb played an important role in saving it.

Family members said Salimbhai is recovering well and hopes to return to caring for his horses once he fully recovers.
