An honour killing incident has come to light in Saurashtra’s Jetpur, where a man has been killed by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.

The BJP leader learned about his daughter’s love affair with the man and killed him along with his aides. Police have nabbed seven accused in this case so far, while the lookout for the BJP leader is on.

Honour killing by Jetpur politician

Hitesh Baraiya, alias Hiten, ran a business in Rajkot’s Jetpur, was abducted and allegedly killed on Oct 17 by Rajesh Baraiya, a BJP leader and the husband of Hansa Baraiya, the Jetpur taluka panchayat vice president, and his eight aides.

The honour killing took place after Rajesh, along with Nitin, Umesh, Chandresh, Gajanan, Mayur, Alfaizkhan, Vikram, and Lalit, found Hitesh sitting near Jalaram Nagar road in Virpur near Jetpur. From there, he was abducted in a car with a plate which read 'President, Taluka Panchayat, Jetpur’.

Hitesh’s kin, Keshav Baraiya, got to know about his abduction, and the family tried searching and calling him, but Hitesh was untraceable.

After reaching the spot where Hitesh was last found, they were informed about his abduction.

How did the family find Hitesh?

Later in the night, Rajesh finally received Hitesh’s phone call, who said that they “will get Hitesh in two hours”.

Rajesh later called up Keshav and told them to take Hitesh from his Vaadi.

The family rushed to Rajesh’s Vaadi, where they found Hitesh in a severely wounded state. Upon investigation, they discovered that the culprits abducted Hitesh and brought him to Rajesh’s aide Nitin Makwana’s Vaadi, where all of them assaulted him and later brought him here.

Rajesh threatened the family, “Take Hitesh away from Virpur. If I find your brother here after he has been discharged from the hospital, I will kill him.”

Succumbed to his injuries

Hitesh’s family then was taking him to the hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries midway.

His elder brother, Umesh Baraiya, registered a complaint at the local police station over the kidnapping and murder with a premeditated conspiracy.

The local police sub-inspector (PSI) MJ Parmar said, “The deceased youth Hitesh Baraiya was in a romantic relationship with the daughter of the vice president of Jetpur Taluka Panchayat. Rajesh got to know about their conversations on the calls after which he was abducted and brutally beaten to death by BJP leader Rajesh Baraiya. At present, the police have arrested seven people and are investigating thoroughly into the case.”

Currently, the prime accused BJP leader Rajesh Baraiya and Nitin Makwana are on the run, while police have arrested seven aides of Rajesh.
