Home Ministry issues alert for Gujarat fishermen as winds may reach 60 kmph

The Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response (ICR-ER), operating under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, has issued a special advisory for fishermen following forecasts of rough weather and strong winds along the Gujarat coastline in the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), strong winds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, are likely to prevail along the Gujarat coast and adjoining areas between June 20 and June 21.
The wind intensity is expected to increase further between June 23 and June 24, when coastal regions of Gujarat and Konkan may experience winds of 40-50 kmph, with gusts reaching 60 kmph.
Similar conditions are expected to continue between June 24 and June 25, with strong winds and rough sea conditions likely to persist along the Gujarat and North Konkan coasts.
The advisory also warns of adverse weather conditions and strong winds over several parts of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
Gujarat has more than 36,000 operational fishing boats and an estimated 5.86 lakh fishermen. The state produces approximately 7 to 8.7 lakh metric tonnes of fish annually, making fisheries a major economic activity.
Given the scale of the fishing industry, authorities have urged fishermen to avoid venturing into deep-sea areas during the warning period and to remain alert to weather updates. The advisory has been issued to ensure the safety of fishermen and prevent loss of life and property due to rough sea conditions.
