Home Guard critically injured in assault outside Meghaninagar bus stand, three booked

A Home Guard officer sustained serious head injuries after being attacked by three individuals, including a man identifying himself as Shravan Patni, outside the last bus stand of Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad late on Friday night. The assailants, allegedly claiming to be local gangsters, assaulted the officers on duty and threatened to kill police personnel before fleeing the scene.
According to the complaint filed by Home Guard Shaileshbhai Gandabhai Desai, the incident occurred around 11.45 pm on May 10, when he and his colleague Bharat Swarji Thakor were on patrol duty near the Shantisagar area in Meghaninagar. Three men approached the officers, one of whom introduced himself as Shravan Patni, asserting that he was the brother of 'Ravana' and claiming that they were the 'dons' of the locality.
Desai stated that the trio began hurling abuses at them and threatened to kill the policemen. Despite being asked to refrain from using abusive language, the accused allegedly became violent and initiated a physical assault.
During the altercation, two other Home Guard officers, Kirtibhai Dhirendrabhai Jha and Dharmendra Pratap Singh Rathore, arrived at the scene on motorcycles while en route to Bhargava Road. When they attempted to intervene and pacify the attackers, the accused reportedly turned on them as well.
Shravan Patni allegedly picked up a stone from the roadside and struck Home Guard Kirtibhai Jha on the back of the head with force, rendering him unconscious and causing heavy bleeding. The assailants then fled the scene as bystanders gathered.
Kirtibhai Jha was immediately rushed to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital by his colleague Dharmendra Singh Rathore, where he remains in a critical, unconscious state. His family members were informed about incident.
A case has been registered against Shravan Patni and two unidentified associates at Meghaninagar police station under relevant sections for assault, attempt to murder, and criminal intimidation. The police have launched a search operation to apprehend the accused.
Senior officials described the incident as a serious attack on law enforcement and assured strict action would be taken against those responsible.
